Western Visayas trumps Davao to clinch Palaro volleyball gold
Western Visayas clinched the gold medal in secondary women's volleyball by dispatching the Davao Region in straight sets

LAGUNA, Philippines – Western Visayas clinched the gold medal in secondary women’s volleyball by dispatching the Davao Region in straight sets, 25-18, 25-12, 25-23, at the Main Gymnasium in the Laguna Sports Complex on Saturday, May 10 at the 2014 Palarong Pambansa.

Western Visayas banked on their net defense the entire way, leaving Davao struggling to get their attacks through to the other side.

Davao Eagles team failed to channel their visible energy to points on the court as Western Visayas limited them in the second set to just 12 markers.

Despite showing some signs of life in the final frame, Davao couldn’t get the job done.

Regardless, Davao was still very much happy to bag a silver and become only the third Davao team to finish in the final four since the 90s, according to head coach Kirk Mojica.

“Masayang masaya na kami na naka-silver kami kasi ang goal lang talaga namin is makapasok sa final four,” exclaimed the 17-year old Patria Peña. “Sobra sobra na yung silver.” (We’re very happy we got a silver medal because our only goal was to reach the final four. The silver medal is a big accomplishment already.) – Rappler.com
