TAGUM CITY, Philippines – Region VI’s goalball players used their keenness of hearing as they defied visual impairment gaining a come-from-behind win over Region III with a solitary goal lead, 6-5, at St. Mary’s College Mini-Gym on Thursday, May 7.
Headed by their coach Grace Malata, the three-man team from Western Visayas vied for their first win with visually disabled athletes, namely, Rodel Diaz who has low-capacity vision, Edgardo Amisola, a partially blind athlete, and the totally blind Dave Buenavista.
After their miserable loss against Bicol Region on Tuesday, May 5, Western Visayas finally got their first victory in Match 16 as Rodel Diaz successfully fired their sixth goal in the last minute of action during the second half to break the deadlock score, 5-5.
Central Luzon nailed three consecutive goals in the early minutes of the second half putting pressure on Western Visayas’ squad.
