MANILA, Philippines – Nike Philippines has formally announced that Indiana Pacers All-Star Paul George will visit Manila on Monday, July 20, as he unveils the 24 hopefuls to be included in Nike's Rise, a program and documentary set to highlight undiscovered basketball talents in the Philippines.
George will speak on Monday about his “personal rise” moments, according to Nike’s press release, and encourage players to rise to life’s challenges and tap their full potential.
The former All-NBA Defensive Team member and Most Improved Player of the Year will also be present for the unveiling of the House of Rise, where the 24 finalists for the program will stay over the next few weeks and have access to advanced tools, equipment, and apparel to improve their skills.
Rise, which is spearheaded by former Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes and current national team assistant coach Jimmy Alapag, has travelled to Dagupan, Davao, Cebu, and Manila over the past few weeks to find the 24 players for the program.
Episodes of Rise will be available on TV5 every Sunday beginning some time in July, with Nike.com also having behind-the-scenes content.
“Rise will encourage and provide opportunities to everyday athletes to go beyond their comfort zone,” said Nike PH Country Marketing Manager Patrick Reyes during Rise’s media launch.
George played just 6 games last NBA season due to a broken leg he sustained in a Team USA scrimmage game in Las Vegas last August, averaging 8.8 points and 3.7 rebounds a game while shooting 37% from the field.
The Pacers star is also expected to visit China after the Philippines for Nike’s Rise program there. – Rappler.com
