There were more than a few surprises at the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft

MANILA, Philippines – A brand new batch of rookies has been selected. (LIST: 2015 PBA Rookie Draft applicants)

Filipino-Tongan standout Moala Tautuaa was taken first overall by the Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft on Sunday, August 23, at Robinsons Place Manila.

Versatile big man Troy Rosario was then selected second overall by the Mahindra Enforcers. The former National University standout together with Tautuaa are both still in Estonia with Gilas Pilipinas for a pocket tournament.

By the third pick, Rain or Shine did the unexpected by picking Fil-Am Maverick Ahanmisi. Ahanmisi, a former guard for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, played for the Cafe France Bakers in the PBA D-League. (READ: Maverick Ahanmisi is following the path of Stanley Pringle)

There were some other surprises where Gilas cadet and University of the East standout Roi Sumang, as well as Ateneo guard Nico Elorde fell as far back as the third round.
