MANILA, Philippines – Chris Newsome may not have won the PBA Slam Dunk contest at the 2016 All-Star Weekend, but he sure had the most style points.

For his first dunk of the contest, Newsome paid tribute to 8-division boxing champion and PBA player Manny Pacquiao.

Newsome started to sprint and pretended he was going to catch the basketball from Meralco teammate Jared Dillinger, but stopped before taking off and headed for the baseline.

The athletic swingman then took off his Bolts shorts and jersey, revealing old-school red-colored shorts with designs of flames, an ode to the “No Fear” trunks Pacquiao wore during the early 2000s.

Newsome then put on boxing gloves and was able to throw down a dunk wearing the gloves with help from Dillinger on the second try, but only received a score of 40 from the judges.

Newsome eventually made the finals but lost to teammate Rey Guevarra, who won his third straight dunk contest, 97-96. – Rappler.com
