MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra and PBA legend Robert “Sonny” Jaworski came out to support his old team in Game 6 of the 2016 Governors’ Cup on Wednesday, October 19 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 70-year-old Jaworski, an iconic figure for the franchise from the 80s to the 90s, last watched a Ginebra game live in Game 6 of the 2014 Philippine Cup semifinals against old rivals San Mig Coffee (now Star Hotshots).
“The Big J” spoke to the Gin Kings at halftime of that game and inspired them to a comeback in the second half and to force Game 7.
“Today, there are no losers the way they played the series, it’s amazing that the competition has been so close and the attitude and decorum of the players are fine so we got a good game,” he told reporters before entering the arena where he was serenaded with nostalgic chants of “Ja-wor-ski!”
“There will be no losers, but I want Ginebra to win,” he added.
