CJ Perez is set to beef up San Miguel as Terrafirma plans to trade him in exchange for Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Russel Escoto, Gelo Alolino, and the No. 8 pick in the upcoming PBA Draft.
As confirmed by Terrafirma governor Bobby Rosales, the proposal for the trade has been submitted to the PBA, with the league yet to approve the deal that will see Perez bolster an already deadly San Miguel crew.
The Philippine Star first reported the news.
Drafted by Terrafirma as the No. 1 overall pick in 2018, Perez immediately turned into one of the best players in the league, earning a First Mythical Team selection in his rookie season.
Perez cracked the Outstanding Five in the previous PBA season held in a bubble after averaging 24.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.0 steals.
Wins, however, have been elusive since Perez joined the franchise as Terrafirma failed to make the playoffs since 2016.
But things are about to change for Perez with San Miguel, which won half of the last 16 PBA championships.
If the trade pushes through, San Miguel will acquire another top pick from Terrafirma, which dealt its first overall pick in 2017 to the same team.
San Miguel used that pick to acquire Christian Standhardinger.
Terrafirma will reunite with Escoto, the big man it picked in the special Gilas Pilipinas draft in 2016, and receive point guard Alolino and wingman Ganuelas-Rosser.
Escoto averaged 2.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in the bubble, Alolino normed 2.7 points, while Ganuelas-Rosses opted out. – Rappler.com
