MANILA, Philippines - PBA Commissioner Chito Salud is set to retire at the conclusion of the 2015 PBA season, according to a report.
Per PhilStar, Salud is going to announce his retirement from the PBA, effective following the 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup, during Sunday’s, February 15, PBA Commissioner’s Cup game.
Salud, an attorney who graduated with degrees from Ateneo De Manila University and University of the Philippines, is the eighth commissioner of the 40-year-old league. He took over the job on August 26, 2010, when he replaced now SBP Executive Director Sonny Barrios.
During Salud’s time as commissioner, the PBA expanded from 10 teams to 12 with the additions of the KIA Carnival and Blackwater Elite just this season.
Salud, who will have been at the helm for five years by the time his retirement is official, was partly responsible for adjusting the schedule of the PBA games to make space for the Philippine national basketball team to compete in various international competitions, such as the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship and 2014 FIBA World Cup.
