Christian Standhardinger sinks the game-winning layup against his former team NorthPort to steer Ginebra back on the winning track

Christian Standhardinger delivered when it mattered the most as Barangay Ginebra completed a come-from-behind 87-85 win against NorthPort in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig on Friday, July 30.

Standhardinger hit the game-winning layup off a Stanley Pringle miss with one second remaining to help the Gin Kings get back on the winning track and secure their second victory in the conference.

After leading in the first three quarters, the Batang Pier failed to sustain their momentum in the final frame as Ginebra managed to steal the lead, 74-73, off an LA Tenorio free throw with less than five minutes left in the game.

The Gin Kings then went on a blitzing 11-5 run to lead by as many as 7 points, 85-78, with only two minutes remaining.

However, the Batang Pier fought their way back and tied the game at 85-all off a Sean Anthony free throw with 30 seconds left.

Stanley Pringle turned the ball over in the following possession, but Japeth Aguilar managed to block Jamie Malonzo’s potential game-winning dunk in transition.

Pringle then missed his own potential game-winning attempt on the other end, but Standhardinger was there to clean up the miss and give Ginebra the victory.

“Christian didn’t quit on the play,” said Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone.

“He was down there with Japeth on the block, but he came all the way back down the floor within seven seconds and got that offensive rebound and put it in for the win,” he added.

Pringle topscored for the Gin Kings with 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting, while Tenorio added 20 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds in the victory.

Robert Bolick, who is coming off an ACL injury, continued his stellar play for the Batang Pier as he put up 23 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Greg Slaughter was a man on a mission against his former team Ginebra with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The Gin Kings moved up to 2-2 in the standings, while the Batang Pier dropped to 1-3.
