LA Tenorio extends his record of most consecutive games played as Barangay Ginebra opens the PBA restart with a win

The streak continues.

LA Tenorio lived up to his tag as the Iron Man of the PBA as he suited up for Barangay Ginebra in its first game in the Philippine Cup despite being just two weeks removed from his appendectomy.

There were doubts whether the 36-year-old veteran could extend his PBA record of most consecutive games played after joining the Gin Kings in the bubble in Clark, Pampanga late following his surgery.

But Tenorio answered those concerns as he saw action for Ginebra for nearly 12 minutes in its 112-92 win over NLEX, extending his impressive mark to 642 straight games played.

“You got to give him that tremendous courage coming out and playing two weeks from surgery,” said Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone.

“That is just him. He does not want to miss anything.”

But Tenorio did not look at his best shape as he finished with just 1 point and 2 rebounds against 2 turnovers.

“You could see LA was struggling a little bit, he was not his normal self,” Cone said.

“We watched him with an eagle eye to make sure he was not hurting. He looked all right in the game, he was just rusty.”

Fortunately for Ginebra, plenty of its role players rose to the occasion with Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar, who also joined the team late in the bubble, not at their hundred percent.

Aljon Mariano topscored for the Gin Kings with 20 points, Jared Dillinger had 12 points, while Prince Caperal added 11 points.

Up next for Ginebra is Blackwater on Thursday, October 15. – Rappler.com
