Barangay Ginebra veteran Mark Caguioa eclipses the previous mark set by Alvin Patrimonio with Purefoods and Harvey Carey with TNT

Barangay Ginebra veteran Mark Caguioa notched a major personal milestone as he became the all-time PBA record holder for most seasons played with a single franchise.

Seeing action for the first time in the PBA bubble, Caguioa officially marked his 18th season with Ginebra in a 105-91 win over Meralco in the Philippine Cup on Sunday, October 18.

The 40-year-old eclipsed the previous mark of 17 seasons with a single ball club set by Alvin Patrimonio with Purefoods and Harvey Carey with TNT.

“Mark is just a joy to be around,” said Ginebra head coach Tim Cone. “He is always got a sunny disposition, he is always up, he never sulks, he never gets upset. He just has that kind of personality.”

Despite being slotted in when the win was already in the bag for Ginebra, Caguioa looked like he cherished the limited minutes he played as he let out a smile after knocking down his only shot of the game.

Caguioa finished with 2 points in less than 7 minutes, hiking his career total to 10,073 points.

“His teammates love him. He does not demand anything. With his past history and who he is, he could really demand,” Cone said about the 2012 MVP and 40 Greatest PBA Players member.

“But he does not. He is just a really, really good guy.”

While his high-scoring ways might already be a thing of the past, Caguioa still makes his presence felt with his locker room leadership, particularly to Ginebra rookies Arvin Tolentino, Jerrick Balanza, and Kent Salado.

“We just enjoy Mark being here and being part of the team and lead the young guys,” Cone said.

“He does a lot of talking to Jerrick and Arvin and Kent. He probably talks to them more than anybody else in the team.” – Rappler.com
