Veteran big man Raymond Almazan will be reduced to a spectator as Meralco tries to avoid a 0-3 hole in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinals against Magnolia

Avoiding a 0-3 hole in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals has become a much more daunting task for Meralco.

Meralco will miss the services of Raymond Almazan in Game 3 of its best-of-seven affair against Magnolia on Friday, October 8, after the veteran big man hurt his right ankle.

Head coach Norman Black confirmed the development.

“Raymond will not play in Game 3,” Black told Rappler. “We will just go with what we have and our other guys will have to step up.”

Almazan left Game 2 in the third quarter after rolling his ankle during a rebound battle and did not return as Magnolia cruised to a 92-78 romp for a 2-0 series lead.

Without Almazan and Cliff Hodge, who got ejected in the third quarter, the Hotshots dominated the Bolts inside with 14 more rebounds and 22 more points in the paint.

The 6-foot-8 beanpole started for Meralco in all of its 15 games this conference, averaging 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks.

As Almazan sits out, Black expects the likes of Hodge, Reynel Hugnatan, Noy Baclao, Jammer Jamito, and Raymar Jose to fill the void. – Rappler.com
