Norman Black ‘all for it’ if PBA stages another bubble

Meralco head coach Norman Black only wishes for ample time for each team to train together before the 46th PBA season opens

Meralco head coach Norman Black has no problems entering another bubble if that’s what is needed for the PBA season to push through.

“If we have to do that, that is what we will do. It is my job to coach and the players’ job to play,” Black said in the Power and Play with Noli Eala program of Radyo Singko.

“The teams have been very kind – they’ve taken care of us despite the fact that we are not playing basketball right now. If they say we have to go to another bubble, then that is what we have to do. I’m all for it.”

Staging a bubble – like the PBA did last year in Clark, Pampanga – is being considered as the opening of the 46th season got postponed several times.

The PBA initially penciled an April 9 launch but pushed it back to April 11, then to April 18.

It is still unknown when the new season will come off the wraps as the extended quarantine protocols in Greater Manila covers the entire month of April, further putting the plans of the PBA in limbo.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, though, still has his fingers crossed that the league can pull off the season opening by June.

“I’m still hoping we can start late May or in June,” Marcial said in a story on the PBA website. “Everything will be easier if we can get vaccines.”

But if the PBA decides to put up a bubble anew, Black only wishes for ample time for each team to train together and get back in top form.

Scrimmages are still prohibited in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan, and Rizal even if “NCR Plus” reverted to a modified enhanced community quarantine until April 30.

“What I’m hoping for is that we will be given more time to train before we actually go into the bubble,” Black said.

“That was really our disadvantage last time, some of my players actually joined me there 5 days before we played our first game.”

“We’re hoping that we have a little bit more preparation time before we have to go into the bubble, in other words we get some practices here in Manila so we can get in shape.” – Rappler.com
