NorthPort resumes its campaign, while the Alaska Aces and Meralco Bolts are likely sidelined due to health and safety protocols this week

The shuffling of available teams continues in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup as the Alaska Aces and Meralco Bolts have been left out of the league’s new weekly schedule on Tuesday, September 7.

In the Aces’ and Bolts’ absence likely due to health and safety protocols, however, the NorthPort Batang Pier will finally see action in Bacolor, Pampanga, after being subjected to the same situation last week.

They will get a chance to improve their 1-3 record on Thursday, September 9, in a 4:35 pm match against the winless Blackwater Bossing, who are looking to snap a 15-game losing streak dating back to the 2020 bubble season also in Pampanga.

Earlier on Thursday, the struggling Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters (2-5) will have a good shot to gain some momentum if they take down the league’s new Cinderella team, Terrafirma Dyip (3-4) at 2 pm.

Meanwhile, the first day of the new packed game week will feature a title contender showdown on Wednesday, September 8, 3 pm, between the undefeated TNT Tropang Giga (6-0), and the lagging, but ever-dangerous San Miguel Beermen (3-2).

The third-ranked Magnolia Hotshots (5-2) will start the day at 12:30 pm as they attempt to stave off the red-hot NLEX Road Warriors (4-2), the owners of the league’s second-longest active winning streak alongside Terrafirma with three straight wins.

Finally, the ice-cold defending conference champion Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (2-3) will try to get their bearings back with a tough 6 pm match against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (4-3).

Other notable matchups for the week include back-to-back sister team showdowns between NLEX and TNT on Friday, September 10, 3 pm, and a 6 pm match between Ginebra and San Miguel.

Terrafirma and NorthPort will kick off the double-header on Saturday, September 11, with an interesting match between young guns like Roosevelt Adams, Jamie Malonzo, and Robert Bolick at 2 pm.

Finally, 2020 conference finalists and potentially repeat opponents Ginebra and TNT will test each other’s strengths with a blockbuster 4:35 pm match on Sunday, September 12.

As always, however, all game schedules are subject to change even at the last minute due to the ongoing fight against COVID-19 in the league’s semi-bubble setup. – Rappler.com
