The TNT Tropang Giga snapped their two-game skid after taking down the Meralco Bolts, 92-79, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Angeles University Foundation in Pampanga on Saturday, November 7.
Roger Pogoy finished with 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists for the Tropang Giga, who got right back on track and improved to 7-3 for the No. 2 spot in the standings.
“Maganda sa amin ito kasi two straight losses kami. Nanalo kami ngayon so for the upcoming games, may kumpiyansa ulit kami,” said Pogoy.
(This was good for us because we’re coming from two straight losses. We won tonight and for our upcoming games, we will be confident again.)
After falling to Barangay Ginebra the previous day, TNT went to work right away and built a double-digit lead at the end of the opening period, 29-19.
The Tropang Giga never looked back and extended their lead to as many as 16, 78-62, early in the final frame to pull away from the Bolts for good.
Jayson Castro added 24 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists despite fouling out early in the 4th quarter, while Ray Parks Jr had another double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds for TNT, which sported its all black “Giga Mambas” uniforms.
Chris Newsome topscored for Meralco with 17 points, while Cliff Hodge and Raymond Almazan contributed 14 points apiece.
The Bolts fell to 5-4 for a tie at the No. 5 spot with San Miguel after seeing its two-game winning streak halted.
