In the latest episode of At the Buzzer, a Rappler Sports podcast, host Naveen Ganglani chats with PBA and Gilas Pilipinas veteran Gabe Norwood about the future of Asia’s oldest basketball league.

The two talk about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the PBA as the league attempts to return to basketball action, even if it means the absence of fans in attendance.

Norwood also opens up about how the past few months have been like for him and his peers in the league, some of whom have reached out to him for advice.

The now 35-year-old also reflects on his career with one team, Rain or Shine, and why he was never swayed to look for another franchise. (READ: Why Gabe Norwood never looked elsewhere)

Here is an excerpt from the episode:

Naveen: What have you kept yourself busy with, because I’m sure you’ve been working out at home as well to stay in shape like most PBA players, but with all the sudden free time – aside from tutoring your children or helping raise them – have you had something that’s kept you occupied? Your own hobbies, maybe, or your own interests, or maybe something new that you’ve learned?

Gabe: The last 3 or 4 years my New Year’s Resolution has always been to try to read more. I’ve been really bad at it. I’ll have a good week or month and then that’s over and done with by March, but for me, this quarantine, I’ve probably read more – whether it’s sports biographies or business, finance, investing stuff, or faith-driven books and things like that – so I’ve definitely read more these last, what has it been now, 5, 6 months of the quarantine?

And on top of that, my wife has gotten into gardening, so we have plants. I think that’s the new fad right now. My job is to water plants every day… I feel like I have a good relationship with our plants. I know who needs a little more water, who needs a little less, more light. – Rappler.com
