Pogoy: TNT tired of losing in PH Cup

TNT has had enough of losing in the PBA Philippine Cup.

Roger Pogoy and TNT stamped their mark as a strong contender for the All-Filipino crown after cruising into their fourth straight win with a 110-91 romp of Phoenix on Monday, October 19.

Coming off two straight wire-to-wire blowout wins, TNT showed its mettle when facing a huge deficit as it came back from 14 points down to crush Phoenix and improve to a league-leading 4-0 slate.

“We’re tired of always losing in the All-Filipino [conference]. We’re just proving that we can win here,” said Pogoy – who showed the way for TNT with 30 points and 5 rebounds – in Filipino.

TNT has not won a Philippine Cup title since 2013 – the last time it also reached the championship round of the prestigious conference.

In fact, TNT suffered back-to-back quarterfinals exits in the last two editions of the All-Filipino tourney.

But Pogoy showed how hungry TNT is in reclaiming Philippine Cup glory by suiting up against Phoenix despite suffering a left ankle injury in their previous game against San Miguel.

Pogoy unloaded 20 second-half points to anchor their comeback win, as he recorded his second 30-point game this conference after erupting for 45 points against Alaska in their first game.

“We call him ‘The Wolverine.’ For us coaches, we’re supposed to let him rest,” said TNT head coach Bong Ravena about Pogoy.

“But this kid, he wants to play and this was a very important game for us. We’re lucky to have players like that – all heart.”

Pogoy, though, was quick to note that the job is far from over.

“We’ve only finished 4 games. We cannot afford to relax,” Pogoy said. – Rappler.com
