Veteran forward Harvey Carey has decided to hang up his spurs after 17 seasons in the PBA, all spent with the TNT franchise.
Carey played a pivotal role as he helped TNT win 7 PBA championships since being drafted as the 4th overall in 2003 by the flagship franchise of the Manny Pangilinan group.
“I am personally grateful to Harvey for his loyalty, honesty, and contributions to the team,” said PBA chairman Ricky Vargas, who also serves as TNT team governor, in a statement.
“He has been a quiet pillar of strength in building the TNT culture.”
Although undersized as a power forward at 6-foot-3, the Sonoma State alum carved out a long career with his hustle and veteran leadership.
With Carey as a vital cog, TNT almost clinched a rare Grand Slam in the 2010-2011 season.
His personal accolades include an All-Star appearance in 2011 and selections to the Mythical Second Team in 2003 and the All-Defensive Team in 2007.
Vargas said TNT understands that the 41-year-old Carey wants to stay with his family in the United States.
“We wish Harvey the very best as he moves on and our doors will always be open to Harvey,” Vargas said. – Rappler.com
