Will more PBA games be canceled?
Monday's game hangs in the balance as PBA officials await for the RT-PCR result of the second suspected COVID-19 case inside the bubble

The game between TNT and NorthPort on Monday, October 26, remains uncertain as PBA officials await for the RT-PCR test result of the Blackwater player who tested positive for COVID-19 in the PBA bubble in Pampanga on Sunday.

Both Blackwater and TNT, which played against each other last Thursday, were isolated while waiting for the additional test results of the player. (READ: PBA player tests positive for COVID-19 in bubble)

PBA deputy commissioner Eric Castro said the Blackwater player – the second suspected case after a referee also tested positive this week – already yielded a negative result in the antigen test.

On Sunday, the PBA conducted both antigen and RT-PCR tests on the suspected player.

“Just earlier he was tested through antigen and the negative result was out and we will wait for the result of his RT-PCR,” Castro said in a virtual press conference Sunday night.

Following the second suspected COVID case inside the bubble, the PBA decided to postpone the scheduled match between Rain or Shine and Blackwater on Sunday.

“Most likely we’ll have a triple-header, so expect another schedule to be released anytime soon,” Castro said.

Meanwhile, officials also announced that the referee who tested positive last Wednesday already got a negative result in the RT-PCR test.

“We’ll just allow him to finish [his five-day isolation] to be sure,” said COVID-19 deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon.

“After the 5 days, he will reenter the bubble but the referee still needs to go through the reentry protocols into the bubble, which is another round of RT-PCR testing.”

Officials also stated that all the referees, PBA and Quest Hotel staff, and the 5 journalists who had close contact with the first suspected case tested negative for the virus.

Four of the previously isolated referees, who got negative results from the test, have already been assigned to officiate Sunday’s Ginebra-Magnolia matchup. – Rappler.com
