PCCL: Tamaraws use second half surge to rout NU

MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University used a second half juggernaut to destroy National University, 88-70, in the 2013 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) on Monday, December 2 at the Ynares Arena in Pasig.

The Tamaraws outscored the Bulldogs, 29-11 in the third period to turn a five-point disadvantage at the half into a 65-52 cushion heading into the final frame.

Six straight points from National University kept them within striking distance, 58-68 but FEU continued their dominance in the fourth period, making shot after shot to build an 81-63 edge with just 3:15 left in the match.

The Bulldogs tried to spark a huge comeback but ended up with misses as the Morayta 5 moved one win away from the PCCL semifinals.

Big man Anthony Hargrove and spitfire guard Mike Tolomia combined for 34 points in the second half alone to outscore the entire Sampaloc-based squad, who only had 28 in the final two quarters.

Hargrove played his finest game in an FEU uniform, scoring 28 points on 13-of-15 shooting; he added 13 rebounds and 2 blocks to spearhead the Tamaraws.

FEU will face the winner of the UST-Letran match-up in a rubber match to determine who takes the final semis slot. - with reports from Levi Verora/Rappler.com
