Julian Kyle Macaraeg will kick off his bid for a spot in the 2022 Winter Olympics as he competes in the 2021 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships that will be staged in Netherlands starting Friday, March 5.
Macaraeg, 17, is one of the youngest participants in the tournament, where he will make his debut in the senior level.
The holder of several national records in the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m distances, Macaraeg has represented the Philippines in various international competitions.
He saw action in several world cups and donned the national colors as the first Filipino short speed skater in the Youth Olympic Games last year.
At the world championships, Macaraeg aims to raise his rankings as he attempts to qualify for the Winter Olympics.
Macaraeg is coached by Ukrainian mentors Serhiy Lifyrenko and Valentyn Danilovsky.
