MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine men’s sailing team struck gold on Sunday, June 14 as Ridgely Balladares, Richly Magsanay and Rommel Chavez took home the Philippines’ first Southeast Games sailing gold since 2005.
The meet took place on Marina Bay in Singapore, with Balladares and Magsanay improving on their 2013 silver finish at the 27th installment of the SEA Games to earn the Philippines its 26th gold medal overall at the SEA Games.
Sailing gave the Philippines its second gold of the day, after Denise Dy and Treat Huey won the mixed double’s tennis final. Dy later teamed with Katharina Lehnert in the women's doubles gold medal match but lost 2-0 to Thailand.
Earlier in the archery event, Amaya Cojuangco fell short to Malaysia in the women’s individual compound event final, 138-136, to settle for silver. The Philippines earned 3 bronze medal showdowns in that event.
