Starting the rout for Zamboanga was Alessandra P. Bernardo who topped the Tunggal in the Seni Early Age 7-11 Girls. She then partnered with Hazel Sagrado to bag the gold in Ganda. Zamboanga also won the gold in Regu in the same age category.

Tyron Bernardo added two gold medals for Zamboanga after he ruled the Tunggal and Ganda with partner Jerome E. Negapatan in the Seni Pre-Teenager 11-14 Boys.

In the distaff side, Hannah Seins H. Leano also bagged the gold. She and partner Estrella Olimpon also took the gold in Ganda while Zamboanga also bagged the gold in Regu in the same category.

The remaining gold was contributed by Noreen Bendano when she ruled the Tunggal in the Seni Teenager 14-17 Girls.

Zamboanga’s two silver medals came from the Seni Pre-Teenager 14-17 Boys courtesy of  Melchor Porfirio and from the Regu in the Seni-Teenager 14-17 Girls.

Finishing second and third to Zamboanga in the medal tally of Pencak Silat were Aklan with 3 gold medals and a silver; and Tubungan Iloilo with two gold medals and a bronze.

Cycling Criterium

In the Cycling Criterium which was the first event contested on Day 1 of competition, Lipa City and Nueva Ecija dominated with two gold medals each. Lipa’s gold medals were bagged by Jose Emmanuel in the 14-15 Boys and Tomas Mojares in the 16-17 Boys category.

Nueva Ecija, on the other hand, had Genisis Marana to thank for both gilts after she crossed the finish line ahead in the 14-15 and 16-17 girls categories.

Trailing at second with one gold and 3 bronze medals is the Cebu Province. Earlier in the day, Moira Frances Gabrielle Erediano, 12, bagged the very first gold medal of the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championships by topping the Girls 10-13 category at the New Tagum City Hall.
