MANILA, Philippines — On to the next level.

At least 115 Palarong Pambansa 2013 medalists will represent the Philippines in the 5th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Schools Games in Hanoi, Vietnam on June 22-30.

According to the Department of Education, the youth national athletes were chosen after nabbing gold, silver and bronze medals in the Palaro held last April in Dumaguete City.

“They are not only competitors, but our ambassadors of goodwill,” said DepEd Secretary Br. Armin Luistro, who added that their participation in the meet is an incentive and a chance for them to gain international exposure.

The ASEAN Schools Games will be participated in by more than 1, 500 athletes from the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Events include track and field, speak takraw, swimming, badminton, basketball, gymnastics, table tennis, volleyball and pencak silat.

“We wish our athletes good luck,” Luistro said.
