Right after Alex Eala’s historic 2020 Roland Garros juniors semifinal stint, brother Miko kicked off his tennis restart campaign with a doubles title in the 2020 Lousada Junior Cup II on Sunday, October 11 (Monday, October 12, Manila time).
The older Eala partnered with Dani Rincon of Spain and defeated the Portuguese pair of Miguel Gomes and Henrique Rocha, 6-1, 6-3.
Seeded No. 3 in the tournament, the title-winning duo only dropped one set in the tournament when they rallied from a set down to defeat dutch Jesse De Jager and Alexandr Kalinin of Belarus, 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-2), in the semifinals.
Eala last saw action in the 2020 Australian Open juniors tournament before the pandemic put a halt to the world of sports.
The 17-year-old Eala graduated from the Rafa Nadal Academy this year and and is slated to play in NCAA Division I school Penn State University next year. (WATCH: Filipino Miko Eala hits with world No. 2 Nadal)
His sister Alex made history in Philippine tennis last weekend as she became the first Filipina to reach the semifinal of a junior Grand Slam singles tournament.
The last Filipino to appear in a junior Slam last 4 was Felix Barrientos 35 years ago in the 1985 Wimbledon tournament. – Rappler.com
