The national skateboarding federation is confident that Margielyn Didal will make the Tokyo 2020 Olympics cut

Filipino skateboarder Margielyn Didal has virtually qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Skate Pilipinas announced on Saturday, June 5.

Despite falling short of a finals berth in the 2021 World Street Skateboarding Championships in Rome, Italy, Didal is assured of a slot in the Tokyo Olympics via world rankings.

“The official announcement of qualified skaters will only be released after the World Championships Finals in Rome, but Skate Pilipinas would like to be the first to announce that our very own Margielyn Didal has earned a slot for the Tokyo Olympics. Congratulations Margie! Mabuhay ka Margie!” the sport’s national federation posted on Facebook.

Didal holds the 13th spot in the world rankings, which puts her inside the top 16 cutoff for an Olympic berth.

She is expected to rise up the rankings as only three skateboarders per country are allowed to compete in the global sports showpiece to be staged from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo, Japan.
