MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The playing ground is now set for the Philippine men's basketball team that will tip off its 2018 Asian Games campaign on Thursday, August 16.
The Philippines was initially bunched with United Arab Emirates, Syria and Iran in Group B, but Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio confirmed Gilas' move to Group D after the withdrawal of the Palestine national team.
The Rain or Shine-reinforced basketball team will now lock horns with Kazakhstan and China in the 3-team group. The top two teams of each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

SBP backtracked from its decision to pull out of the Asian Games, caving in to public pressure. With the cooperation of the PBA, the baskeball federation is now able to send a team composed of the Rain or Shine core and several PBA stars led by Christian Standhardinger and Paul Lee.
