JAKARTA, Indonesia (UPDATED) – After winning a gold and a silver in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, Agatha Wong finally solidified her place as one of Asia’s best.

The 20-year-old Wong captured a bronze in the women’s taijiquan and taijijian all-around final of the 2018 Asian Games on Monday, August 20 at the Jakarta International Expo. 

“I feel also relieved kasi tapos na ako (I’m done), and my hard work has paid off,” said Wong. 

Wong racked up a total of 19.36 points to bring home the country’s third bronze medal. She placed behind silver medalist Juanita Mok Uen Ying from Hong Kong (19.42) and gold medalist Lindswell of Indonesia (19.50).

The wushu practitioner didn’t quite expect that she’d land on the podium right on her first try in the continental games.

“For me, I just had no expectations. I just wanted to do my best and I think I did my best, so I think that’s worth it na din,” added Wong. 

“I just always keep a very positive mindset and that has taken me places already ever since SEA Games and World Championships.”

In the SEA Games, Wong bagged a gold in the women’s taijiquan and fell behind Lindswell for a silver in the taijijian. In this year’s Asiad, she participated in the combined event. – Rappler.com
