WATCH: Hidilyn Diaz on journey to Asian Games gold
JAKARTA, Indonesia – After emerging as the country's first female Olympic medalist in 2016, Hidilyn Diaz knows that expectations will always be high.
Diaz admits that she occasionally succumbs to pressure, but thankfully, she managed to brush it off in the 2018 Asian Games and deliver the Philippines' first gold medal.
"Days before, umiiyak na ako kasi ni-let go ko na yung pressure, kung dadalhin ko sa laro, di ko magawa (getting the gold)," recalled Diaz.
(Days before, I was already crying because I let go of all the pressure. If I brought that to my performance, I wouldn't have gotten the gold.)
Although the country's golden girl has yet to get a well-deserved rest, she's starting to reap the benefits of her sacrifices. And there's also that renewed confidence that got Diaz back on her bid for the 2020 Olympic gold. – Rappler.com
