Filipino bet misses jet ski race in 2018 Asian Games
Billy Joseph Ang didn't get to see action at all as Indonesian customs refused to release his jet ski

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino Billy Joseph Ang didn’t get a chance to see action in the 2018 Asian Games after his jet ski was not released by Indonesian customs in time for his race on Thursday morning, August 23.

Ang, one of the country’s medal bets, was supposed to race in the final moto 1 of the runabout 1100 stock event at 10 am (Philippine time), but was turned into a spectator instead.

“His jet ski was at the airport customs since Saturday (August 18). The issue was elevated at the Indonesia executive level,” Philippine chef de mission Richard Gomez told Filipino reporters in Jakarta. (READ: Airport mishaps throw PH campaign in disarray)

Ang won bronze in the 2014 King’s Cup World Championships and placed sixth in the 2014 Asian Beach Games in the runabout stock event.

He is touted to add to the country’s medal haul, which now stands at one gold and five bronze medals.

“Even the Vice President of Indonesia called them and yet the customs people didn’t bring the boats of China, Cambodia and Philippines out,” Gomez added.

Ang is slated to compete in the final moto 2 at 2:30 pm but it is unlikely that he will race. – with reports from Beatrice Go in Jakarta/Rappler.com
