2011 topnotchers strike early in table tennis

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan – The top 3 finishers of last year made early impressions in the 2012 Palarong Pambansa table tennis secondary boys  competitions at the CSI Stadia here.
 
Defending champion Western Visayas jumpstarted their bid by blanking Cagayan Valley, 3-0, ruling the singles ties, 3-2, 3-2 before closing things out with a 3-2 win in the doubles.
 
Meanwhile, 2011 runner-up Central Visayas made short work of CARAGA, 3-0 off similar 3-0 victories in the singles games and another 3-0 shutout in the doubles.
 
Last year’s third placer, Northern Mindanao also shone bright in mowing Cordillera Administrative Region, 3-0 (3-0, 3-0, 3-2) in Group D even as Central Luzon scored a 3-0 win over MIMAROPA (3-2, 3-1, 3-0)
 
Bicol Region survived Davao Region, 3-2, to barge into the win column with Region I, which beat Eastern Visayas, 3-2.
 
In the women’s division, Western Visayas also launched their title defense with success after whipping MIMAROPA, 3-0 (3-0, 3-0, 3-0) while 2011 third placer National Capital Region blanked Bicol Region, 3-0 (3-0, 3-0, 3-1).
 
Central Luzon defeated ARMM, 3-0, and Northern Mindanao posted a shutout over CAR, which bounced back to beat ARMM, 3-0. 
 
In the elementary boys division, NCR, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao and Cotabato Region posted victories while winners in the girl’s tilts were Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Cotabato, CARAGA, CALABARZON and Central Luzon. – Rappler.com
