May 12, 10:00am update: Northern Mindanao stands out

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan - Below is the Department of Education's forecast of the top 10 in overall regional standings for Palarong Pambansa 2012.

These standings may change, as they are forecasts based on past trends determined by DepEd.

This forecast is as of Saturday, May 12, 10:00 am:

1st National Capital Region (NCR)
2nd Western Visayas (Region 6)
3rd Southern Tagalog (Region 4A)
4th Central Visayas (Region 7)
5th Central Luzon (Region 3)
6th Northern Mindanao (Region 10)
7th Cotabato Region (Region 12)
8th MIMAROPA (Region 4B)
9th Davao Region (Region 11)
10th Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)

According to Deo Genito who is in charge of Palaro scoring, Region 10 or Northern Mindanao has been performing well this year compared to past years. Northern Mindanao won 3 gold medals on Friday, May 11 at the secondary taekwondo Kyorugi competition.

Note that these medal tallies do not necessarily correspond to overall rankings, since medals are weighed differently, depending on the sport and whether they are individual medals or team medals.

Aside from points given per medal, teams are given an additional number of points if they top certain events such as swimming and athletics. -
