DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) — MIMAROPA football player Britz Manzo injured his elbow during the match but Region IV-B went on to beat Northern Mindanao, 3-1, in the football secondary division in the 2013 Palarong Pambansa here.

The 16-year-old Romblon native was battling with a Northern Mindanao player for the ball in the air when he landed wrongly, elbow-first, in the opening minutes of the second-half.

The game was tied 1-1 at the time.

However, the MIMAROPA crew rallied from there, firing in two more goals from Kier Fallaria and Jopridale Molino after the stoppage to crush Region X.

Jumo Blez opened the scoring for the Northern Mindanao XI in the 31st minute with a strike inside the penalty area off a spill by the MIMAROPA goalkeeper.

It was a different story in the second half, though, as Rafol equalized via a long-range shot off an assist by Manzo in the 50th — an attempt that caught the Region X keeper flat-footed.

But the match was halted for quite some time after Manzo injured his elbow.

Shouting in pain and holding his right arm, Manzo was stretchered off the pitch by the local medical team monitoring the games. He was the one who assisted the equalizer for his region.

Asked about the extent of the injury, medical team member Noel Alcales said the athlete may have fractured his elbow due to an obvious dislocation.

“Most likely, it’s more than a sprain. He may even have fractured his elbow because of the fall,” he said.

Luckily for Region IV-B, Fallaria and Molino sealed the triumph over the 2012 Palaro 6th placers with goals in the 66th and 82nd minute, respectively. – Rappler.com
