LAGUNA, Philippines – Host region Calabarzon kicked off Palarong Pambansa 2014 with a thorough defeat of Zamboanga Peninsula, 80-56, in the Secondary Boys Basketball Division at the Laguna Sports Complex Main Gymnasium in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.

Calabarzon, which is represented by players from San Beda Taytay, led throughout the game.

According to Franz Abuda of Calabarzon, it was hard to play against Zamboanga’s fast breaks and pressure at the start of the game but they were able to win the game through teamwork.

“Sinasabi lang po ni coach na teamwork. Kung sino yung libreng tao, yun ang pasahan, wag pilitin ang tira (Coach told us to focus on our teamwork, pass the ball to the open man and do not force our shots),” he said.

Zamboanga Peninsula tried to overcome the lead with 5 straight points at the start of the final quarter, 52-45, but CALABARZON answered back with an 8-0 blast from which their foes were never able to recover from. – Rappler.com
