Team Lakay hopes to join ONE Championship return
Coach Mark Sangiao says Team Lakay's top wards are ready to fly out for ONE Championship fights outside the country

With ONE Championship rolling out two more events in August with ONE: No Surrender II and ONE: No Surrender III, a certain team in the Philippines is hoping to rejoin the action.

Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao said that they are ready to compete if called upon by The Home Of Martial Arts’ matchmakers.

“I am happy for ONE. I am really happy for the athletes of ONE and of course the management, seeing that they are back. Of course, it’s a big boost to their business as well,” Sangiao said.

“On our part, we’re just waiting for events to be held in the Philippines, or if they can fly foreign athletes like us elsewhere, we’d gladly take it.”

Team Lakay hopes to join ONE Championship return

The last time an athlete from the famous gym in Baguio City competed in ONE was when Honorio “The Rock” Banario outpointed Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai in ONE: King of the Jungle in Singapore last February.

The soft-spoken mentor bared that the Games And Amusement Board (GAB) have granted them permission to travel if needed. To do so, he and his team only have to meet requirements set by GAB chairman Baham Mitra.

“To be clear, yes we can fly out. We just have to get the necessary requirements and submit it to our government so we can fly out,” he said.

While they wait, Sangiao is doing everything he could to get his athletes ready in case they are asked to compete in the ONE Circle. (READ: Team Lakay confident about return to glory days

For now, their focus is staying on top of their game and keeping healthy until further instructions are given.

“We require all our fighters now to train every day for as long as there are no restrictions with them, but there are also protocols that we have to follow,” Sangiao said.

“As much as possible, I also advise them to have a singular route, like home-gym and gym-home, to avoid contracting the virus.”

“I want to make sure my athletes stay at home as much as possible and only go out when really needed.”

ONE: No Surrender II and ONE: No Surrender III will be staged on August 14 and 21, respectively . – Rappler.com
