‘He’s been my best friend since we were kids so I’m definitely excited for that,’ says Thirdy Ravena of his upcoming showdown with Kobe Paras in the Japan B. League

After putting up impressive numbers for their respective squads in the opening weekend of the Japan B. League, Thirdy Ravena of the San-En NeoPhoenix and Kobe Paras of the Niigata Albirex BB now shift their attention to their much-awaited duel this weekend.

The two high-scoring forwards last faced each other in UAAP Season 82, with the former Ateneo Blue Eagle Ravena winning both “Battle of Katipunan” matchups against the ex-UP Fighting Maroon Paras.

They are set to rekindle this rivalry at the Hammatsu Arena on Saturday, October 9, 5:05 pm, Manila time, and on Sunday, October 10, 1:05 pm, Manila time, and both games will be televised live on the cable channel TapSports and will also be available for streaming on the TapGo app.

Already playing in his second season for the NeoPhoenix, Ravena, the trailblazer for Filipino hoopers in Japan, finished with a game-high 21 points, along with 7 rebounds and 5 assists in their 101-96 overtime win over his brother Kiefer and the Shiga Lakestars on Sunday, October 3.

Paras, meanwhile, came up with 10 points and delivered two crucial baskets in the clutch in Niigata’s 76-75 come-from-behind victory over the Kyoto Hannaryz on Sunday.

Prior to that win, Paras exploded for a team-high 25 points in his B. League debut for the Albirex BB on Saturday, October 2, thus earning the praise of his “best friend” Ravena.

“I’m looking forward to it. We have another game against Niigata this weekend and Kobe, who just played tremendously,” said Ravena of his upcoming showdown with Paras.

“He’s been my best friend since we were kids so I’m definitely excited for that,” he added.

With both Ravena and Paras coming off huge victories and their squads tied at 1-1 in the standings, expect nothing but a fiery showdown between the two Filipino basketball stars in the Land of the Rising Sun this weekend. – Rappler.com
