FEU takes control of second place by outlasting Adamson

MANILA, Philippines – The rookie-laden Adamson Falcons will finish the first round of the UAAP’s 77th season with a winless 0-7 slate. 

The FEU Tamaraws, on the other hand, finish at 5-2 and at second place in the league standings.

Mike Tolomia had 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Mac Belo pitched in 13 markers and 4 rebounds to lead the Tamaraws past the Falcons, 71-62, on Wednesday afternoon, August 13, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Celedonio Trollano and Jansen Rios combined for 33 points and 15 rebounds to spearhead their Falcons team were playing without Head Coach Kenneth Duremdes, who’s currently in Bahrain to deal with family matters.

Assistant Coach Vince Hizon took over playcalling duties for AdU, though his team still fell prey to a Far Eastern University squad (1.1) that presently owns the tiebreaker via quotient against other current 5-2 teams in the UAAP – DLSU (.978) and NU (.914).

The Falcons actually got off to a good start, building a lead as much as five due to Trollano’s hot shooting spree early on. However, the Tamaraws quickly countered, as a scorching hot Tolomia helped lead his squad to a 24-17 lead after 10 minutes.

The rest of the contest went the Tamaraws’ way, with Adamson managing to outscore their counterparts only in the fourth quarter.

Far Eastern University’s bench played a huge role in the victory, outscoring Adamson’s, 30-18, thanks to Belo and Carl Cruz’s contributions. FEU also had another superb performance of moving the ball, racking up 19 assists in total. - Rappler.com
