Galang is Galing as Lady Spikers down UE

MANILA, Philippines - The De La Salle University Lady Spikers made quick work of the University of the East Lady Warriors in their UAAP Season 77 women’s volleyball match on Wednesday, February 11, by prevailing in a 25-6, 25-17, 25-17 three-set rout at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The win improved DLSU’s record to 11-1 as they maintained their comfortable hold of the second seed in the league standings. UE, on the other hand, suffered their 11th loss in as many games, and is far and away the worst team in the league.

Kim Fajardo scored just 5 points but had 28 excellent sets. Veterans Mika Reyes and Ara Galang took care of the scoring department, putting up 10 markers apiece, while Cyd Demecillo wasn’t far behind with 9 points in addition to 6 digs.

No UE player managed double-figure scoring, as Angelica Dacaymat put up 9 points while Shaya Adorador had 5.

La Salle didn’t waste any time establishing a lead in the opening set, building a 7-3 lead. UE couldn’t muster a comeback, scoring just three of the set’s next 14 sets. By the time the Lady Spikers were ahead 18-6, there was no longer a question who would draw first blood.

Set two followed a similar script, as La Salle erected a 15-8 thanks to balanced offensive scoring from their main guns. After they extended their advantage up to 21-11, UE started to gain some momentum and scored six more points.

But unfortunately for the Lady Warriors, their defense couldn’t limit their opponents enough to make a serious bid at a comeback.

The good news for UE was that their momentum carried over to the third set, where they even led 10-9 at one point. Although it didn’t take long for the Lady Spikers to regain control of the match, as they utilized a 9-3 run en route to cruising to the easy win.

La Salle has now won five straight games since dropping their first-round closing match to Ateneo, who’s currently atop the league standings. UE is now 1-33 in sets this season, and remains winless dating back to last year.

Both squads will be back in action on Sunday, February 15. DLSU will take on the Adamson Lady Falcons, while UE will go head to head against the Lady Eagles.
