Mbala puts on highlight reel as La Salle crushes Ateneo

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Round one goes to the guys from Taft.

Led by a highlight-filled, stat sheet-stuffing performance by big man Ben Mbala, the De La Salle Green Archers defeated their rival Ateneo Blue Eagles, 97-81, on Sunday, October 2, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.

After going down by 6, 26-20, La Salle used a 20-3 run in the second quarter to take control of the game and didn't look back the rest of the way, much to the delight of the Green Archers crowd.

The win improved La Salle's record to an undefeated 7-0 at the conclusion of its first-round campaign, while Ateneo dropped to 4-3.

Mbala finished with 28 points on 11-of-13 shooting, 13 rebounds, and 5 steals, while Andrei Caracut scored 14 points and Abu Tratter added 10.

DLSU shot 42% from the field and forced 30 Ateneo turnovers that resulted to 33 points.

Adrian Wong led Ateneo with 15 points while Matt Nieto added 13. – Rappler.com
