La Salle’s CJ Austria and UST’s Adama Faye won’t see action in the next UAAP playdate after committing flagrant unsportsmanlike fouls

MANILA, Philippines – The UAAP slapped a one-game suspension on La Salle’s CJ Austria and University of Santo Tomas’ Adama Faye for committing unsportsmanlike fouls in separate incidents in the men’s basketball tournament.

Austria will serve his one-game ban in the Green Archers’ game against the league-leading NU Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 19, while Faye will sit out the Tigers’ match versus the FEU Tamaraws on the same day.

In a statement, the league said Austria committed a “flagrant unsportsmanlike foul with no direct play for the ball” at the 5:59 mark of the third quarter during La Salle’s duel against FEU last Saturday.

The following day, Faye also got called for a “flagrant unsportsmanlike foul” for hitting UE’s Harvey Pagsanjan with 56 seconds left in the third quarter of their game.

Both Austria and Faye have been summoned to the office of league commissioner Dickie Bachmann.

Austria has been a key contributor for the Archers, averaging 7.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.

The Tigers will also sorely miss Faye, who leads the team in rebounds (9.0) and blocks (1.6) and ranks second in points (11.0) behind UST top scorer Nic Cabanero.

League action returns on Wednesday in another quadruple-header at the Mall of Asia Arena starting at 11 am. – Rappler.com
