UAAP leading assist man Evan Nelle will sit out La Salle's second-round opener against UST due to a one-game suspension

MANILA, Philippines – La Salle is getting off to a rocky start in the second round of the UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament as lead guard Evan Nelle gets slapped with a one-game suspension following his third unsportsmanlike foul of the season against Adamson last Saturday, October 22.

The last infraction occurred at the 2:13 mark of the first quarter, when Nelle was caught trying to trip Falcons star guard Jerom Lastimosa. His previous offenses happened last October 9 against Ateneo and last October 1 against UP.

With the league’s leading assist man out for the Archers’ 2 pm second-round opener on Saturday, October 29 against UST, head coach Derick Pumaren will have to split playmaking duties anew with reserves Penny Estacio and Mark Nonoy.

UAAP leading scorer Schonny Winston will also be tasked to create more scoring opportunities for himself and the rest of the team against a Growling Tigers squad aching to break a six-game losing streak.

La Salle, on the other hand, is also in the middle of a funk after falling to sixth place with a 3-4 record at the end of the first round.

Nelle will next suit up for the Archers on Wednesday, November 2, in a 4:30 pm clash with the streaking FEU Tamaraws. – Rappler.com
