MANILA, Philippines – National University continued its dominance in women's basketball after defeating Ateneo de Manila University, 75-55, in the finals to sweep the UAAP Season 78 tournament anew and become champions for the second consecutive year on Sunday, December 6 at the Blue Eagle Gym.
NU swept back-to-back seasons for its second straight title and a 32-game winning run, which is the second longest active streak next to Adamson's 62 in softball.
Afril Bernardino topscored for the dominant Lady Bulldogs with 18 points, 17 rebounds, two assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks as she earned herself the Finals MVP plum. Bernardino, a Perlas Pilipinas member, also won her second straight season MVP award.
Andrea Tongco contributed 17 points while Rheana Itesi had 13 markers and 9 boards off the bench. Shelley Gupilan added 11 points.
Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles fell short after a spirited run that saw them scratch and claw their way to the finals by winning 5 do-or-die games as the fourth seed.
