MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Blue Eagles rolled past the Mapua Cardinals, 99-55, to stay unbeaten in the 12th Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup on Friday, June 8 at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

 Angelo Kouame unloaded a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds to power the Blue Eagles to their 8th straight victory. 

Raffy Verano also contributed 12 points while Thirdy Ravena and Adrian Wong chipped in 11 points apiece. 

 The Blue Eagles dominated the Cardinals right in the first quarter for a 15-point lead, 17-8, that stretched to 44-26 at the break.

Kouame highlighted his performance with two thundering slams –  one assisted by Ravena – early in the second half that helped the Blue Eagles sustain their momentum.  

Eric Jabel and Lawrence Victoria topscored for the Cardinals with 12 points each.

The Cardinals, who committed numerous turnovers, absorbed their second straight loss.  

St. Benilde upsets Letran

The St. Benilde Blazers stunned the Letran Knights in a thrilling overtime win, 89-88, in the other game.

Edward Dixon buried 21 points, the last two on free throws that sealed the game as the Blazers extended their solid run to 6-1. 

Justin Gutang also delivered 13 points and big man Clement Leutcheu posted a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Blazers, who managed to stifle Letran just enough before the final buzzer sounded.  

The Knights forced overtime after a clutch 3-pointer from Bong Quinto with 12.8 seconds left that tied the game at 75 in regulation. 

John Calvo had 17 points to lead 4 Letran players in double figures.

San Beda trips Perpetual

The San Beda Red Lions, meanwhile, downed the Perpetual Help Altas, 74-68, to hike their record to 4-2.

Jose Mari Presbitero topscored for the Red Lions with 16 points and Donald Tankoua also contributed 12 points and 15 rebounds.

“We messed up our defense, we messed up our offense, that’s why nakabalik yung Perpetual (that’s why Perpetual was able to rally),” said San Beda coach Boyet Fernandez. 

Robert Bolick stepped up in the final stretch before finishing with 11 points for the Red Lions.
