Despite coming away with the UAAP and PCCL titles this year, Green Archers Juno Sauler believes his squad is capable of doing more

MANILA, Philippines – It seems there’s no letting up for De La Salle University, even after coveting a rare double crown after they copped the UAAP and PCCL titles in the same year – a feat only done twice in the past by Far Eastern University and Ateneo De Manila University.

“It was a great year for us, lots of learning and improvement. Hopefully these learnings and experiences will carry us through next year,” said Sauler after DLSU won the PCCL crown against Southwestern University on Tuesday.

Indeed, it has been a great ride for Green Archers head coach Juno Sauler this year; what made it even more dramatic is that he was assigned as La Salle’s head coach just three weeks before the UAAP cage wars began.

And while he did not expect the double crown, he thinks his boys should still improve on more aspects of their game to run like a well-oiled machine.

Always reiterating the importance of improvement, Sauler believes the best is yet to come for the Taft-based squad.

“We’ll still have to learn more. Things happened today where it should have not happened, it still shows lack of maturity from our players,” said Sauler about their PCCL stint.

DLSU looking for ‘best talent available’

After a much-deserved break, DLSU will focus on beefing up their line-up as early as January 2014. Sauler knows they are a bit behind when it comes to recruitment compared to other schools, and he seeks the best talent available.

“We havent talked about that yet so hopefully, by 2014 (we’ll start recruiting). We’re way back compared to other teams who started recruitment,” he said.

“It’s not really the hole to fill, but it’s trying to get he best available talent out there,” he shared. “Whoever’s good in college and can fit in the system, that’s good enough.”

For now, La Salle will take a break for the holiday season. Some will go back to their provinces while others will spend time abroad. After that, it’s all business again for the Green Archers. – Rappler.com
