CESAFI: SHS-Ateneo wins 4th straight HS basketball title
Jed Cedrick Colonia is the MVP for the second straight season as the Magis Eagles sweep the UC Junior Webmasters

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles have won the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) High School basketball title for the fourth straight year after sweeping the best-of-3 finals series, Sunday, October 16, at the New Cebu Coliseum, downtown this city.

The Magis Eagles ended the hopes of the University of Cebu (UC) Junior Webmasters, 72-56, in Game 2.

This is a double victory for the Magis Eagles as this morning, they also won the CESAFI secondary football title with a 1-0 edging of the Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) Greywolves at the Cebu City Sports Center.

This is also the second time that the Magis Eagles won both CESAFI football and basketball titles as they also achieved the same feat in 2012.

SHS-AdC president Fr. Manuel A. Uy said the boys achievement is very meaningful because of the double victory which the boys achieved on the same day.

“As always we offer everything to the greater glory of God. We are very proud of our boys and we are also very proud of UC and the crowd because they played with character. Our aim is to always build champions with character,” Fr. Uy said.

Head coach Romel Rasmo said that he was expecting the team to bag their fourth straight title but “we all knew that it wasn’t going to be easy.”

“You know with our two losses to them (UC Junior Webmasters), nakakawalang Kompyansa,” Rasmo said.

The UC Junior Webmasters defeated the SHS-AdC Magis Eagles twice this season, during the eliminations and the semifinals. They were also the only team who dealt the Magis Eagles with a loss last season during Game 1 of the Finals.

Rasmo said that he specifically asked the boys to end the secondary finals series today so he could focus on the collegiate Best of 5 Title Series which is being contested by last year’s runner-up University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the defending champions University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors. Rasmo is also the head coach of the Warriors, taking over the reins from Britt Reroma.

 MVP and Mythical 5

SHS-AdC’s Jed Cedrick Colonia was named as the Most Valuable Player for the second straight year.

Joining him in the Mythical 5 are teammate Eroll Pastor (F), UC’s Gelmart Umpad (G), UV’s Raul Jancork Cabahug (F) and James Daniel Tempra (C) of the Cebu Eastern College.

CESAFI basketball will continue tomorrow with Game 2 in the collegiate’s best of 3 fight for third place and the Best of 5 title series.
