Tristan Ray Albina wins the 3-point shootout title for the second straight year and Rey Anthony Suerte is named Most Valuable Player

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Players of the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers made a splash in the CESAFI All-Star event held Sunday, October 1 at the New Cebu Coliseum, with Tristan Ray Albina wins the 3-point shootout title for the second straight year and Rey Anthony Suerte being named Most Valuable Player.

The other finalists were University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors’ Kevin Oleodo, who also tallied 13 points, and Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras’ Sir Shaquille Imperial who had 14 points.

In the final round, Albina, who was the fourth to take his turn, scored 16 points, just a point above Imperial. Oleodo ended with 14 points, Napao with 12 points and Dela Cruz with 6 points.

Aside from being named as the MVP, Suerte was also named into the Mythical 5 along with teammate Monic Soliva while UV Baby Lancers Justin Jake Rosete also made it to the Mythical 5 in the High School All-Star game.

Joining Suerte and Soliva in the Mythical 5 were Cebu Institute of Technology University (CITU) Wildcats’ Jemcerson Sable, Imperial and Webmaster import Frederick Ngoh Elombi.

Rosete was joined by Baby Cobra Patrick Gyle Montaño, Junior Webmaster Virlou Orquez, Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragon James Daniel Tempra and Don Bosco Greywolves player Grenald Malubay, who also earned the MVP High School accolade.

In the other sideline contest, University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR) Jaguars’ Juan Miguel Gastador was declared as the new Slam Dunk King after wowing the judges as well as the crowd with his 360 slam dunk which earned him a perfect score of 50 points in the final round.

In the final round, Gastador went up against teammate Albert Catiloc whose alley-oop only earned him 39 points.

Gastador instantly became the crowd favorite with his tomahawk dunk in the first round which earned him 49 points.

The obstacle Challenge was won by Cebu Institute of Technology University (CITU) Wildcats’ Marl Vincent Laguna in the collegiate division while dominating in the high school division was USJR Baby Jaguars’ Van Clemence Tindoy.

All-Star Games

The South All-Stars overcame a final quarter onslaught by the North to win this year’s All-Star title in the collegiate division.

Its younger counterpart, however, failed to conquer the North as it bowed 83-104 in a game that opened the CESAFI All-Stars.

The South almost squandered an 18-point lead when they allowed a determined North team to come back into the game in the final canto.

As soon as the final quarter started, the north slowly chipped away at the South’s lead until Webmaster Justine Dacalos was able to tie the ballgame at 100-all with just 2:44 left on the clock.

Dacalos points, however, proved to be the last for the North as UV Green Lancers import Bassieru Sackor pulled the south up by two points, 102-100.

USJR Jaguars’ Jaybie Mantilla sealed the South’s win by converting his two charity baskets.

Suerte topscored for the South with 19 points while Malubay had the same honor in the high school contest, albeit for the North, with 13 points.
