Jiovani Jalalon heads Arellano in the final period as the Chiefs get back at last year's finals foes Red Lions

MANILA, Philippine – In a rematch of last year’s NCAA finals, Arellano University pulled off an 88-84 upset against the defending 5-peat NCAA champion San Beda College on Tuesday, August 18 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

Jiovani Jalalon headed Arellano in the final period and mustered 22 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals to improve the Jerry Condiñera-mentored brigade’s standing to 6-3.

Arellano lambasted San Beda with a 30-point output in the first canto before the Red Lions picked up the pace and conceded 25 points in the next two quarters for a 61-55 lead entering the fourth frame.

The Chiefs regained the momentum as Jalalon buried back-to-back triples, but San Beda responded with 5 straight buckets.
