San Sebastian wallops EAC, returns to winner’s circle
MANILA, Philippines – After suffering 3-straight setbacks, San Sebastian College-Recoletos returned to its winning ways with a 91-77 shutout against Emilio Aguinaldo College on Thursday, September 17 at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Jam Ortuouste led the Recto-based Golden Stags with 24 markers, 6 boards, and 7 dimes to improve San Sebastian’s win-loss standing to 4-10 in the ongoing NCAA Season 91 men’s senior basketball tourney.
In addition, Spencer Pretta contributed 15 of his 19 points in the second quarter and converting 5 of his 9 attempts from downtown.
Although the Generals ended the first frame with a 17-16 cushion, SSC-R blasted its counterparts with a 35-point output in the second period that was initially sparked by Ortuouste and Pretta and gave the red-and-gold troop a 51-35 halftime edge.
“There’s no more pressure on our part because we already know that we are eliminated. We are just enjoying our remaining games while learning,” San Sebastian head coach Rodney Santos said in the post-game interview.
Hamadou Laminou and Sidney Onwubere regained the momentum for EAC by claiming a 77-75 leverage, but San Sebastian closed the contest with a 14-2 blitz to capture its fourth victory in 14 outings.
Francis Munsayac had 21 points for EAC, which downgrades its NCAA record to 2-12.
