Mapua beats JRU, secures No. 3 seed in NCAA Final Four
CJ Isit scored 27 points as Mapua books a semifinals meeting with Letran. JRU will face top-seed San Beda in their Final Four showdown

MANILA, Philippines – In its return to the semi-final round, Mapua Institute of Technology clinched the No. 3 seed in NCAA Season 91’s Final Four by defeating Jose Rizal University, 81-76, on Friday, October 16 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

CJ Isit played a major role in detonating the Kalentong-based Heavy Bombers as he led the Atoy Co-mentored Cardinals with 27 markers, two boards, two dimes and 3 steals.

Aside from his stellar scoring output, Isit delivered the game-winning dagger, coming from a pass by Josan Nimes.

Nigerian import Allwell Oraeme registered another double-double performance, registering 11 points and 24 rebounds.

Darrell Menina also contributed 16 points to Mapua’s victory over JRU as the Cardinals book a date with No. 2 seed occupant Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Tuesday, October 20 at the same playing venue.

Despite the losing effort, Bernabe “Teytey” Teodoro steered JRU’s effort as he drilled 16 points and was able to erase Mapua’s seven-point cushion in the fourth period, 72-73.

As Teodoro put JRU within striking distance, Mapua responded with Oraeme’s three-straight baskets and Isit’s jumper on the left corner to cement the win against Vergel Meneses’ boys.

The Heavy Bombers are set to dance with the No. 1-rated and defending champion San Beda College on Tuesday as well.

Both San Beda and Letran have a twice-to-beat advantage in the crossover semi-final phase.
