San Beda coach expects another classic match vs Letran in Game 3
"It doesn’t get any better than this,” says San Beda coach Jamike Jarin

MANILA, Philippines – San Beda College head coach Jamike Jarin expects another classic encounter against Colegio de San Juan de Letran as both rival schools square off in a do-or-die Game 3 on Thursday, October 29 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Following a 94-90 defeat to Letran in Game 1 last week, San Beda tied the NCAA Season 91 best-of-3 championship series by forging a deciding contest with a 68-61 victory in Game 2.

“Every basketball player should experience a rubber match. It doesn’t get better than this. Rubber matches are historic,” Jarin stated in the post-game interview. “If you lose or win, you are part of history. You will be remembered as part of something big.”

Javee Mocon and Baser Amer played a pivotal role in San Beda’s must-win triumph versus Letran as the second-year Bedan forward registered 13 points, 8 rebounds, one steal and two blocks, while the graduating court general nearly earned double-double feat of 9 markers, 11 boards and 4 dimes.

Aside from Mocon and Amer, Ola Adeogun and Art Dela Cruz also had strong scoring outputs as they contributed 14 and 12 points respectively.

“It has to start from each person that you have to embrace your responsibility and not be allowed to get beat. That’s how we started and I hope we maintain it,” Jarin said of his marquee players.

After he took full accountability for the Game 1 setback, Jarin promises that the boys from Mendiola will enter Game 3 even more prepared than they had for Game 2.

“We will prepare for Letran,” he vowed. “Expect one hell of a game. From start to finish, it will be a classic one.”

San Beda aims for a record-setting sixth-straight NCAA basketball championship and ninth  title in 10 seasons.

On the other hand, Letran had a solid Game 1 performance from Mark Cruz, who converted 13 of his 21 points in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, Jomari Sollano and McJour Luib had 10 points apiece for Letran, which still has the chance to notch its first NCAA basketball crown in 10 years.

“Like Game 1, it’s a classic game. Hats off to Letran and to all their fans especially to their coaching staff. It doesn’t get any better than this,” Jarin quipped. – Rappler.com
